Human Rights Campaigner I. A. Rehman Examines Pakistan’s Controversial Blasphemy Law and Its Misuse Against Christians, Other Minorities
On July 19, 2010, two Christians, pastor Rashid Emmanuel and his brother Sajjad, were shot dead on the premises of a court in Pakistan’s Faisalabad city. The two had been accused of distributing blasphemous materials; a case had been filed against them under Section 295-C of the Pakistani Penal Code (PPP) for distributing handwritten pamphlets that contained blasphemous materials.
According to the report, the pamphlets carried two cellphone numbers which led to the brothers’ arrest, following a complaint lodged by one Khurram, who is believed to be member of the little known Tehreek-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool (Movement for the Prophet’s Dignity).
In another case, a 60-year-old woman, Zaibun Nisa or Zainab Bibi, spent 14 years in a Pakistani prison for an alleged act of blasphemy against the Holy Koran, though no court trial took place and no police case was filed against her. The Lahore High Court, which ordered her release after no evidence was found against her, expressed dismay over her long detention “without any trial.” The woman was also found to be mentally unstable.
The cases cited above have caused fresh concerns over Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws. One of them, Section 295-C, carries the death penalty.
In most blasphemy cases, Pakistan’s trial courts in Pakistan cannot deliver impartial judgments because of threats from armed religious groups, and sometimes even from vigilante policemen, who take it upon themselves to implement their own form of instant justice against the accused. The blasphemy laws have also attracted international attention, especially for their misuse against minority communities in Pakistan such as Christians, Hindus and Ahmadi Muslims.
Several human rights campaigners and members of minority communities have demanded changes in these laws. However, no Pakistani minister wants to risk his life by introducing such legislation.
The report below was provided by the Staff at TheUnderGroundSite:
Pastor Artur Suleimanov, 49, was shot by unidentified gunmen recently while leaving Hosanna Christian Church in Dagestan on July 15.
Suleimanov was a Russian pastor who founded the biggest Protestant church in the Northern Caucasus region. The church has 1,000 members, 80 percent of whom were previously Muslim.
He was murdered recently after a media report said he deserved to die for converting too many Muslims. [emphasis mine]
Dagestan, located in the Caucasus mountains, is home to 2.6 million people, 91 percent of which are Muslim. Missionaries from outside Dagestan had not matched Suleimanov’s success, who was a native of the region.
Because the country borders Chechnya, it is often caught in the crossfire of a longstanding conflict between Russia and Chechen Sunni Islam separatists leading to many civilian deaths.
Further adding to tensions is the regular crackdown of the Russian government on Wahhabis Sunni Islam separatists. Muslims dislike Russian Orthodoxy because it is considered a Russian faith. Christian minorities are also persecuted, CDN said.
Suleimanov leaves behind his wife Zina and five children, CDN said.
It’s difficult to imagine this kind of cruelty. Such is life under the Taliban.
“The Taliban pounded on the door just before midnight, demanding that Aisha, 18, be punished for running away from her husband’s house. Her in-laws treated her like a slave, Aisha pleaded. They beat her. If she hadn’t run away, she would have died. Her judge, a local Taliban commander, was unmoved. Aisha’s brother-in-law held her down while her husband pulled out a knife. First he sliced off her ears. Then he started on her nose.” Read moreThanks to the Wichita chapter leaders for sharing this story with me.
RadicalIslam.Org reports on Christian persecution:
Radical Islam does not embrace freedom of religion. Christians are brutally tortured, kidnapped, and beheaded for no other reason than their faith and belief in Christianity.
From torturing a couple in Iran for reading the Bible, to a father in Saudi Arabia violently cutting out his young daughter’s tongue and burning her alive for converting to Christianity-the danger is clear and present.
In Iraq, a Christian community that used to have one million followers has dwindled. Across Baghdad terrified Christians remaining in Iraq celebrate Easter while under protection. Today, most of the worshipers are women and children, as many Christian men have either been kidnapped, or worse, killed.
In 2006, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Baghdad, reported a story about a 36 year-old Christian woman, Julie Carlo: “Recently, life for Christians in Iraq has turned into a horror movie.”
In the West Bank, Christian villages have been set ablaze by Molotov cocktails thrown by Muslim neighbors. Predominantly Christian cities such as Bethlehem have become Muslim dominated. Christians have left due to severe and violent persecution. Christian leaders remaining in Bethlehem have dodged multiple assassination attempts.

According to KTVA – CBS Alaska, July 26, 2010 by Carolyn Kuckertz, Federal agents say 35-year-old Paul Gene Rockwood, Jr., aka “Bilal”, created a hit list of people he wanted to see executed.
Rockwood was living in Virginia when he converted to Islam around the beginning of 2002. Shortly after converting, he began following the teachings of cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who is known for promoting violent Jihad ideology.
Prosecutors say while studying of al-Awlaki’s teachings, Rockwood developed a “personal conviction that it was his religious responsibility to exact revenge by death on anyone who desecrated Islam.”
Well that’s comforting. A VA man and converts to Islam and creates a hit list of people who desecrated Islam. Here I thought that writing under a pseudo name was being overly cautious.
Islam is an evil ideology, but not because of extremists like Anwar al-Awlaki. Nope. It was Muhammad, who set the example by having people killed for SPEAKING against him or Islam. For example, Muhammad ordered the murder of Abu Afak, a 12o year old Jewish man, who had urged his fellow Medinans to doubt Muhammad. Read about it from several Islamic sources. At the same link is the story of Asma B. Marwan, a female poet, who like Abu Afak had verbally insulted the prophet. She was dead soon afterward too. Take a wild guess who had her killed.
An article by the good folks at Political Islam.com entitled, Tears of Jihad, reveals that roughly 270 million people have been killed by jihad over the 1400 year history since Muhammad established ‘the religion of peace and tolerance.’ The figures are calculated as follows:
Thomas Sowell [Thomas Sowell, Race and Culture, BasicBooks, 1994, p. 188] estimates that 11 million slaves were shipped across the Atlantic and 14 million were sent to the Islamic nations of North Africa and the Middle East. For every slave captured many others died. Estimates of this collateral damage vary. The renowned missionary David Livingstone estimated that for every slave who reached a plantation, five others were killed in the initial raid or died of illness and privation on the forced march.[Woman’s Presbyterian Board of Missions, David Livingstone, p. 62, 1888] Those who were left behind were the very young, the weak, the sick and the old. These soon died since the main providers had been killed or enslaved. So, for 25 million slaves delivered to the market, we have an estimated death of about 120 million people. Islam ran the wholesale slave trade in Africa.
120 million Africans
The number of Christians martyred by Islam is 9 million [David B. Barrett, Todd M. Johnson, World Christian Trends AD 30-AD 2200, William Carey Library, 2001, p. 230, table 4-10] . A rough estimate by Raphael Moore in History of Asia Minor is that another 50 million died in wars by jihad. So counting the million African Christians killed in the 20th century we have:
60 million Christians
Koenard Elst in Negationism in India gives an estimate of 80 million Hindus killed in the total jihad against India. [Koenard Elst, Negationism in India, Voice of India, New Delhi, 2002, pg. 34.] The country of India today is only half the size of ancient India, due to jihad. The mountains near India are called the Hindu Kush, meaning the “funeral pyre of the Hindus.”
80 million Hindus
Buddhists do not keep up with the history of war. Keep in mind that in jihad only Christians and Jews were allowed to survive as dhimmis (servants to Islam); everyone else had to convert or die. Jihad killed the Buddhists in Turkey, Afghanistan, along the Silk Route, and in India. The total is roughly 10 million. [David B. Barrett, Todd M. Johnson,World Christian Trends AD 30-AD 2200, William Carey Library, 2001, p. 230, table 4-1.]
10 million Buddhists
Oddly enough there were not enough Jews killed in jihad to significantly affect the totals of the Great Annihilation. The jihad in Arabia was 100 percent effective, but the numbers were in the thousands, not millions. After that, the Jews submitted and became the dhimmis (servants and second class citizens) of Islam and did not have geographic political power.
This gives a rough estimate of 270 million killed by jihad.
